DataFlex TechStack Documentation¶
The DataFlex TechStack is the next generation of DataFlex technology. It gives every DataFlex developer access to a new, cross-platform foundation for building business applications — across browsers, desktops, mobile devices, and cloud environments — while preserving the productivity and development experience that make DataFlex unique.
This site is the central source of technical information for the TechStack: installation, getting started, samples and tutorials, API references, release notes, and the roadmap.
Why a new TechStack?¶
For nearly fifty years, DataFlex has evolved alongside changing technology — from character-mode applications, to Windows, to the web — while keeping one thing constant: helping developers build business applications quickly and reliably, with minimal complexity.
Modern applications are expected to run everywhere and to feel responsive, work offline, synchronize seamlessly, and deploy across platforms. The TechStack is a new foundation built to meet those expectations while letting existing applications evolve gradually over time. It focuses on:
- Cross-platform deployment
- Local application execution using WebAssembly
- Mobile application support
- Modern desktop applications
- Cloud-ready architecture
- Incremental migration paths for existing applications
The TechStack Preview Program¶
The TechStack is delivered through the TechStack Preview Program: an ongoing initiative that gives every DataFlex developer access to the latest preview builds. Rather than a single beta release, the program evolves continuously — new capabilities arrive regularly and the documentation grows alongside development.
The Preview Program is intended for exploration, testing, and feedback. For production applications, use the current stable DataFlex release.
